Protected areas
Kamchatka is the land of majestic volcanoes and health-given springs.
The romance of the paths, where the human has never stepped before,
attracts the travelers.
182 natural objects are classified as unique natural monuments
on the territory of the peninsula, the aim of the creation of the
protected areas system is urgent not only for the inhabitants of
the region, but for all world community.
Specially
all protected land of the Kamchatskaya Oblast cover more than 27%
of its territory. Here is created 2 state nature preserves: the
Kronotsky and the Commandorsky, 5 nature parks: Nalychevo, Yuzhno-
Kamchatsky, Bystrinsky, Klyuchevskoy, Golubiye Ozera; 1 federal
wildlife refuge; 23 regional wildlife refuges, mostly including
the water-fowl nestling places; 105 natural monuments; 3 recreation
zones; the restricted areas along the spawning rivers; the genetic
preservations; and the restricted water reservoirs.
On the territory of the Koryaksky Autonomous Okrug there are 66
specially protected nature territories including Koryaksky nature
preserve, 7 federal wildlife refuges, and 58 natural monuments.
5 protected territories of the peninsula are included into the
List of the World-Wide Cultural and Natural Heritage in the nomination
“Kamchatka’s volcanoes”. This list made by WWF (World Wild-Life
Fund) comprises 200 Unique eco-areas of the world.
They are: Kronotsky state biospheric Reserve, Yuzhno-Kamchatsky
Federal wildlife refuga, and the regional nature parks: “Nalychevo”,
“Yuzhno-Kamchatsky”, “Bystrinsky”. In the Bystrinsky nature park
the traditional nature use of the indigenous people (Koryaks, Itelmeny,
Evens) is kept. The reindeer breeding and folk trades are being
developed.
