Volcanoes
There are lot of sightseeing in Kamchatka. But the “ stone torches”
of volcanoes are the most impressive ones. They are the glory of
this land. There are few places on the planet, where you can see
so many volcanoes at the same time.
The first data concerning Kamchatka’s volcanoes were cited by S.P.
Krasheninnikov. More ancient than the Eastern ridge the Sredinny
volcanic belt is more than 450 km at full length and has 120 large
volcanoes and more than 1000 slag cones and only one active volcano
Ichinsky (3621 m).
It`s dimensions, unusual shape, beauty, and the volcanic glass (the
obsidian) attract the tourists’ attention. But the approaching routes
to it are of high difficulty and available only to the experienced
mountain-climbers.
The younger Eastern ridge is 850 km at length and has 100 large
volcanoes, 28 of them are active with 6 eruptive (Mytnovsky,
Avachinsky, Karymsky, Kluchevskoy, Bezymyanniy,
Shiveluch).
Kluchevskoy is the biggest active volcano in Eurasia (4750 m in
height). This fact is known by everybody since the schooldays. It
also has an incredibly perfect classical cone. Klyuchevskaya Volcano
Group has got legal status of Nature Park since 1999.
Kluchevskaya Sopka gathered the group of 12 volcanoes round it.
“This group is so perfect in beauty that can hardly be with the
Andes, or Fuji, or Etna” such high praise is given to the giants
of Kamchatka by travelers.
The process of oro-genesis is going on in sight of inhabitants
and guests of Kamchatka. Volcanoes are being born even now. Kamchatka
is a unique nature laboratory where one can observe it.
In 1975-1976 the whole world was watching the performance of the
birth of New Tolbachinskiye volcanoes
which cones had grown from the clefts crawling off along the valley.
The event of such greatness is the event of the century.
You can move by car In the zone of slag cones.
Not far from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski the Avachinskaya group of
volcanoes is located. The actives among them are Avachinsky
and Koryaksky volcanoes. “Avacha” is constantly in work. “Koryaka”
is forbidding and majestic. The cone of it is of a classical form
with occasional furmarol outcrops.
Here the famous “Bombyozhka” is positioned – a hilly valley covered
with occasional volcanic bombs. It is inexhaustibly rich in mushrooms,
berries and fir-cones.
Avachinsky volcano, despite its activity, is accessible for tourists.
It takes even untrained, aged, or young tourists only 6-8 hours
to get to its crater under the guidance of experienced instructors.
One more group of volcanoes attracting the tourists’ attention.
It is the Mutnovsko-Gorelaya group.
These volcanoes are located 80 km. to the south from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski.
Mutnovsky volcano lets the citizens of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski
appreciate its activity exhausting vapor-steam clouds. It works
much. This volcano has the biggest fumarolic fields. Here you can
see the outcrops of native sulfur and mud cauldrons.
A trip to this place is not difficult and exceptionally interesting.
