The Mutnovsky and the Gorely volcanoes

  • The Avacha volcano
  • The Vachkazhets mountain
  • The Kozelsky volcano
  • The Mutnovsky volcano
  • The Gorely volcano
  • The Tolbachik volcano
  • The Mutnovsky and Gorely volcanoes are the main volcanoes among the Mutnovsky-Gorely volcano group which is located 75 kilometers southwards from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. During a helicopter tour the tourists will see the most interesting and unique natural places.

This is the Severo-Mutnovsky tectonic zone which includes several groups of thermal springs - Severo-Mutnovsky, Dachnye, Verkhne-Zhirovsky and Vilyuchinsky springs.
    The Mutnovsky volcano - 7669 f (2324 m)

The Mutnovsky volkano is famous for its crater which has the form of an ellipse and its dimensions are 2 * 1,5 km. It shows a strong fumarole activity. The last gas eruption was in 1961. But ever in the quiet period the volcano excretes large amount of energy in the form of fumarole gases and numerous powerful thermal springs. It is one of the largest in the world geothermal deposits. Its total power is evaluated in 300-400 MW. On the north - western slope of the volcano a geothermal electric station of 150 MW is being constructed at present.

The Gorely volcano - 6036 f (1829 m). It is an active volcano. Its last eruption caused an ashfall in Petropavlovsk in 1980. At present the volcano is quiet. But numerous craters on the summit, fresh lava streams up to 15 km long and a huge caldera more than 10 km in diametre narrate about complicated and wild history of the Gorely volcano. It is interesting to know that there is a volcano with the same Russian name in the Aleutian volcanic range.

Skilled instructors will help in immediate proximity and absolutely safety to watch fumarole steam and gas emissions and boiling mud pots. After the short excursion you may swim in outdoor pool or natural hot puddles.
